Some friends and myself stayed in a hotel in Vienna near Washington DC. The night before the inauguration we took the metro into DC and walked around looking for a good place to sit for the next day. None of us had tickets, but we were going to do the best we could to get as close as they would allow us. We went to the Kennedy Performing Arts Center and heard Aretha Franklin sing which was amazing! There were so many people just sitting in the hallway listening and watching her on a screen. From the top of the Kennedy Center we could see almost everything, the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, etc. The view of the Potamac was beautiful. On Inaug day we didn't get very close at all. But it was still a good time. Even waiting in line for 2 hours to get back on the metro to leave wasn't terrible. It was interesting to see all the vendors and their Obama items. |
